The Old Guard is an upcoming action and sci-fi movie on Netflix directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood who also directed ‘Love & Basketball’ and ‘Beyond the Lights.’ The movie is inspired by the comics of Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez. The movie is a combination of thrill, adventure, drama, and a lot more. Not only this, but the release of this movie will make Gina the first black women to direct a big-budget film.
The action scenes of the movie are well presented as the actors have put their life into practicing it. Netflix’s recent film ‘Extraction’ that cast Chris Hemsworth in the lead had some spectacular action scenes and giving it the same competition, Theron will be seen giving out great moves. Also, Theron is not the only one acting as ‘The Old Guard.’
The story revolves around a pack of fighters who are all hundreds of years old immortals ready to recover from any wound, yet are compelled to live alone and maintain a strategic distance from relationships to ensure their mystery. Similarly, as they locate another eternal who has “risen”, they understand somebody is onto their mystery and need to battle for their opportunity before their new foe makes sense of how to reproduce their powers.
The movie also reflects the gay relationship that is praised by the stars of the movie Marwan Kenzari and Luca Marinelli, playing the role of Joe and Nicky. Based on the comic, Joe and Nicky are a beautiful gay couple, while Kenzari delivers a speech regarding their relationship and bond. “It is a very happy and proud moment for the team that the movie is about to spread a powerful message of love”, Marinelli says.
After Netflix took the rights for the film, Kiki Layne committed to appear in the movie. Other cast like Marwan Kenzari, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Luca Marinelli also joined in May 2019. The casting for the film didn’t stop, as Chiwetel Ejiofor, Harry Melling, and Veronica Ngo also joined the project.
There’s a lot of buzz about the film even before it is released and is set to air on July 10, 2020. Netflix is also prepared to release other kickass projects like The Kissing Booth 2, Cursed, Down to Earth, and more.
