Pokemon Sword and Shield Third DLC Might Have a Starter Problem

Fans of Pokémon Sword and Shield are excited about the new DLC content and this leading to some new rumors. Pokémon Sword and Shield have not confirmed their third DLC expansion, but many players already started to believe that the third DLC expansion will arrive after the Crown Tundra DLC expansion. The major reason behind this is because of the Kalos region. The Kalos region is bringing all new exploration locations in the Pokémon Sword and Shield.

There might be some problems with the Kalos region. Indeed they are bringing the three starter Pokémon which are Fennekin, Chespin, and Froakie. Probably the fans are having no problems with these starter Pokémon, but comparing them with other starter Pokémon can lead to some problems in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Lack of Mega Evolution or the Gigantamaxing

In Pokémon Sword and Shield, a total of six starter Pokémon are available from the mainline. Those Pokémon are Charmander, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Scorbunny, Sobble, and Grookey. All these Pokémon have Gigantamaxing forms once they are fully evolved. Furthermore, the Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise also have Mega Evolution forms.

However, the Delphox, Greyninja, and Chesnaught aren’t available in Pokémon Sword and Shield yet, neither do they have Gigantamaxing forms. The Mega Evolution first appeared in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, but the Kalos starter Pokémon cannot evolve in Mega form. Because the Kanto starter doesn’t have Mega forms or the Gigantamaxing forms, they are less appealing.

However, there’s a possibility that Kalos starter will get the special forms if Pokémon Sword and Shield add them in DLC. However, what kind of special forms they might get isn’t confirmed yet.

Obtaining the Starters

The starter Pokémon have their category and specialty. They make the game more adventurous. However, if Kalos region Pokémon adds in Pokemon Sword and Shield, they’ll have their party from the main game and other DLC entries. If this happens, the Kalos region will turn out to be a little special from other Pokémon.

Other Region Starters

If the company adds Kalos starters in Pokémon Sword and Shield Pokedex through Kalos DLC, then it will leave some other starter Pokémon in an odd situation. There are plenty of starter Pokémon that aren’t involved in the game yet. Not adding those starters in the game will keep the Kalos starters slightly out of sight.

The starter that isn’t available in Pokémon Sword and Shield are:

  • Cyndaquil

  • Chikorita

  • Totodile

  • Torchic

  • Treecko

  • Mudkip

  • Turtwig

  • Piplup

  • Chimchar

  • Tepig

  • Snivy

  • Oshawatt

These are the other regional Pokémon that are yet to arrive in Pokémon Sword and Shield. If the company allows the transferring process via Pokémon Home, then trainers would be able to use these starters after transferring.

Mega Evolution Addition

As mentioned above, the correct way to make Kalos Pokémon more appealing is by adding the Mega Evolution forms. However, this could begin a different problem. If the company adds Mega Evolution of Kalos region Pokémon, then other Pokémon will also likely get Mega Evolution.

So overall, the company will have to work a lot to make the Kalos region Pokémon more appealing. This could be too much just for a Kalos DLC. It will also make the Kalos DLC expansion much more expansive.

The Likelihood of Kalos Returning

Considering how many changes the new system will require along with the current Pokédex. Developers have to recreate complete Kalos and the Mega Evolution of Pokémon. So as per this, it seems unlikely that the Kalos region will return to Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Kalos starters could arrive in Pokémon Sword and Shield in the future but not because of DLC expansion. However, if the Kalos region returns with DLC, then probably it will not be a complete region because of its size.

So because of all these factors, it seems that players won’t be able to play the Kalos region for too long. Pokémon Sword and Shield have not announced any update regarding the third DLC, so until any further update arrives, players should focus on Crown Tundra DLC.

Conclusion

Pokémon Sword and Shield are very concerned about their every update. Before offering any new update, they work on all possibilities and content which they can provide. Fans are excited for the upcoming Crown Tundra DLC that will arrive in the holidays.
