A Crime Drama Television Series Based on a Book of the Same Name
Gomorrah (Gomorra- La Serie) is an Italian crime drama television series created by Roberto Saviano for Italian language TV station known as Sky Atlantic. The show premiered on May 6, 2014, and has four seasons to its credit. The show is based on Saviano’s book of the same name. There is also a feature film of the same name which is loosely based on the events of the book but is in no way related to the Italian Tv series.
The crime drama’s story revolves around a member of the Savastano clan, Ciro Di Marzio (Marco D’Amore). The crime syndicate is headed by Pietro Savastano (Fortunato Cerlino). D’Amore’s character is shown as someone who wants to hold the reins of the criminal underworld and navigate it according to his whims and fancies alongside fighting a civil war. His character is also shown to have a desire to rise in the criminal hierarchy of Italy.
The show is set somewhere in the 2010s in Naples. The basic premise of the highly popular Italian show states that when Pietro Savastano is taken into custody by the police, it results in a power struggle within the clan. It showcases the power struggle between the old guard of the clan and the young guard headed by Gennaro Savastano.
Gomorrah holds the reputation of bringing to the television a realistic and unglamorous representation of a crime organization in the city of Naples.
