How to Free Up Storage Space on Android Devices

Android phones come with various storage units such as 128GB or 256GB, but some users may have 32 or 64GB of storage devices. If you are not using iCloud based services, then you may be facing low storage warning messages such as “Your device is running out of storage” etc.

If you are using an Android device and trying to get some tips to free up extra space for your other necessary files and apps, then definitely this blog will help you.

Using Built-in Android Tool

Follow these instructions to free up space by using built-in tools:

  • Firstly, swipe down the home screen from the uppermost portion of the display on your tablet or Android device.

  • Now, you will see the gear-shaped “Settings” icon there.

  • After that, launch the Settings page on your device’s screen.

  • Then, choose the option “Storage” from the Settings menu. In case you are using a Samsung Galaxy Android device, then you have to press the “Device Care” option to reach the Storage section.

  • Navigate to the uppermost section of the screen and then check and analyze the complete storage structure. It will show you how much you have used and how much is available there for you.

  • Now, go to the bottom section and check the storage categories. Some Android versions include a separate tab to free up space with the name “Free Up Space.”

  • Next, choose the one from the available categories to free unnecessary consumed space.

  • After that you have selected your option, check the list of apps associated with the particular category. You may select any of the desired options which you wish to remove for freeing up space.

  • After that, choose the app or apps which you want to remove.

  • Then, press the Clear Storage option or Clear Cache. You have to be careful while removing or cleaning any section as you can’t recover after it is removed. Clear Storage will reset the whole app and automatically logged out and then deletes all your app data.

Note: Each section may consist of a more generic option as “Files.” This option is located under the apps list. You can use this to delete files that are not associated directly with the respective app.

  • Now, a File Manager will launch to the folder and thus enables you to choose the file for removal or cleaning-up process.

  • You can also use the File Manager application on your device. It asks you which app you wish to select for finishing the particular action. Suppose, you have selected “Smart Storage,” then tap it and press the option Just Once.

  • The following screen may vary depending on the device edition you own. You will be able to see a complete listing of suggested sections that may be easily cleaned or removed to free up space. Some of the most appearing areas that you can see are:

  • Downloads

  • Infrequently/Idle Used Apps

  • Backed Up Photos and Videos

  • Temporary Files

  • You have to analyze several areas and then decide anything that you like to delete. You may hit the one among these options: Remove, Free Up, and Delete.

  • Now, you may easily return to the primary storage menu and then check out how much space is available on your device or tablet.

You may also use third-party apps to delete some files and apps to make your device organized and to avoid low storage alert messages.
