No matter what degree of passion you hold for health and exercise, everyone is giving props to the new workout and fitness feature that has been launched as part of watchOS7 and iOS 14. The parent company spent ample time at their Worldwide Developers’ Conference to explain the new fitness features they were planning to roll out this year, and rightly so. The changes are a combination of both minute and significant, and it is not something the users can ignore at all once they install the OS 7 update on their Apple watches. But the critical point that the company missed out on was how the updates are not restricted to only the watches but are present in the mobile update as well.
iOS 14
Apple has always ensured that the users who own both the iPhone and the iWatch can check their fitness details on both the devices using the Activity app. The first variation that Apple rolled is a change in the name of the app from “Activity” to “Fitness” in the spirit of incorporating both regular activity and workout data. But one obscure issue is that there still exist separate applications named Activity and Workouts on the watch. Data from the fitness and activity apps can be viewed in widgets specially created for these apps in the upcoming iOS 14. The widgets have two different sizes to suit the preferences of the users. The only difference between the dimensions of the widgets is that the smaller one presents rings and progress for all three goals while the medium size presents graphs of the progress of the entire day alongside the rings.
To give specific details of the brand new Fitness app, the number of individual tabs in the app have been cut down from five to two. Your set goals and progress reports are situated the top, then comes the recent workout routines that you followed. You can tap on these tabs and get a detailed log of all the information. The information is not new as compared to the previous app; only the outlook and placement of information has been made better. The Share tab has a new Volt green colour for its buttons.
Apple Watch and watchOS 7
As compared to the app on the phone, the watch app will be encoded with little extra changes. The first apparent difference is the extra-large complication watch face with the clock just on top of it. It is not limited to Activities or Workouts and allows the activity rings to be visible in the centre whenever you pull out the watch to check it. Moving to the Activity app, the update has not brought much to the app. The bottom of the app holds buttons for a seven-day summary and a possibility to change the Move goal. The function was present before the update too, but they could only be accessed by Force Touch. The Force Touch is being eliminated from the watch with the OS 7. Hence Apple decided it was best to move the buttons at the bottom of the app.
Talking about the Workouts app, it is safe to say that the users will pay more attention to it. Users will attain two pairs of workouts, namely Core Training, Functional Strength Training, Dance, and Cooldown.
While Core training may not indeed be a new addition but the updated version will be so well revamped, it might as well be counted as unique. Apple faced a lot of roadblocks to master the Dance feature of the watch. The technicians toiled hard to get calorie count for different styles like Hip-hop, Latin etc. as accurate as possible. Dance is also disintegrated into social dance and fitness dance.
The iOS 14 and watch OS7 will grace Apple devices in fall of 2020. The users are bound to love these heaps of updates including Hand-washing and Sleep Tracking functions.
