Black Widow to Top Gun Maverick: Here Is a List of Hollywood Flicks That Will Release in 2020

2020 has been a trying year for everyone. The coronavirus pandemic has brought the entire world to a complete standstill. Many filmmakers and production houses have lost out on millions because they had to halt filming to ensure the safety of both cast and crew. Many big-budget films were pushed to a 2021 release despite having a premiere date in 2020. This decision was taken to any losses amidst a pandemic that led to the temporary closure of cinema halls. F9 was postponed to an April 2021 release to ensure that fans get to watch the high-action feature on the silver screen.

However, not all is lost as there are a few upcoming movies whose release dates have been pushed a little bit but will be releasing in the latter half of 2020.

James Bond: No Time to Die

The 25th installment in the iconic British spy series will mark Daniel Craig’s last appearance as James Bond. The film was initially going to premiere on April 10, 2020, but was postponed to November 2020. Cary Joji Fukunaga is directing the movie. According to reports, the story picks up five years after Bond captured Ernst Stavro Blofeld. James Bond has left MI6 as an active agent after the events of Spectre. The premise will see Craig’s character is approached by a Central Intelligence Officer and friend Felix Leiter, who will ask the retired spy to help him track down an abducted scientist Valdo Obruchev.

Black Widow

Scarlett Johansson’s character Black Widow has been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over a decade. She has appeared in movies like Iron Man 2, Avengers, Avengers Infinity War, and Endgame. However, her character was killed off in Endgame when she sacrificed her life to help get the soul stone on Vormir.

One of the most popular characters of the MCU is getting her standalone film titled Black Widow. The upcoming action flick is set after the events of Captain America: Civil War and before Avengers Endgame. The film was initially released on April 20, 2020, but was further postponed to November 6, 2020, because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Scarlett Johansson is supported by a strong star cast such as David Harbour, Rachel Weisz. Cate Shortland has directed the upcoming MCU film.

Wonder Woman: 1984

The Patty Jenkins directorial will see Hollywood A-lister Gal Gadot reprise her role as Wonder Woman, the warrior from Amazon. Chris Pine will also reprise his role as Steve. However, it is not clear how Pine’s character was brought back to the second installment since he got killed in the first film’s climax.

This film will see Wonder Woman come face to face with not one but two villains by the name of Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal) and Barbara Minerva/Cheetah (Kristen Wiig). The storyline will be set in 1984, the cold war era. Gadot’s character will also reunite with Steve Trevor, her love interest in the first film. This highly anticipated feature film is set for an October 2, 2020 release.

Top Gun: Maverick

The first installment premiered in 1986. Top Gun: Maverick is going to premiere 34 years after the first film. Tom Cruise will be back to portray the role of LT Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, a US Navy pilot. The movie is set in the modern world, and the story will focus on Mitchell’s way of avoiding promotions to keep training Top Gun graduates.

The story will also show Cruise’s character battling the demons of his past as he encounters Bradley Bradshaw’s (Miles Teller) call sign: Rooster. Bradshaw is Goose’s son, the officer, and Maverick’s best friend who got killed off in Top Gum.  Top Gun: Paramount Pictures will release maverick on December 23, 2020.

We all know how tough it has been for us to stay at home and miss out on all the things we wanted to do this year. However, everything is not over, and there is still a lot to look forward to and rejoice. Let’s wait for the situation to normalize and cinemas to open up so that we can grab a tub of popcorn and watch our favorite films.
