Tech giant Apple Inc. announced its coveted Apple Design Awards. They awarded eight app and game developers, based on thoughtfulness and creativity. Applications prove to be the platforms where technology thrives. It requires an in-depth understanding of Apple Technology to create an application worthy of these words. In addition to that, the ideas reflected through your work should bring about a new facet of human development in some way, shape or form.

Ron Okamoto, Vice President of Worldwide Developer Relations for Apple, said that the awards were meant to honor the exceptional craftsmanship showcased by developers year after year. He mentioned how past honorees had curated apps and games that changed the way we utilize technology. It is a special and laudable accomplishment to win an Apple Design Award. The winners are inspiring developers worldwide to pursue the nuanced art of developing apps and games.

Apple Design Award Winners: Apps

Darkroom

Darkroom, from Bergen Co., is a photo and video editing application that gives users a holistic experience. It has an extremely beautiful interface intertwined with child-like ease of use. Delivers great performance with super-intuitive controls. And it has a layout that anybody from a casual photographer to a pro will find appreciable. Darkroom proves to be a high-end editing tool that also proves to be user-friendly for casual users. It imbibes all the qualities needed for a holistic experience.

Looom

Looom is an animation playground inspired by music creation tools. Designed for both pros and consumers, it loops hand-drawn stop-motion animation in a well-crafted playful interface. Developed by iorma.studio, for iPad OS, it utilizes other Apple products and technologies like Apple Pencil and Dark mode to their optimum level. The combination of novel controls and intuitive interface makes for an easy-to-use highly rewarding app.

Shapr3D

Shapr 3D, from Shapr 3D ZRT, a CAD app for iPad is a potentially revolutionary application. In a dynamic field like technical drawing and architecture, cutting-edge technology like Shapr 3D can prove to be the undoing of traditional CAD apps. Firstly, you can work without a desk; thus, inspiration can hit anywhere and at any time. It only requires an iPad and an Apple Pencil, which will enable technical designers to access a robust modelling toolset. This can be used to create complex 3D models easily and efficiently. It uses iPad’s ARKit and drags and drops to provide a user-friendly wholesome experience. They plan to use LiDAR Scanner to automatically generate a 2D floor plan and 3D model of a room, by the end of the year. These can be used as the basis of design remodels or additional rooms. You can then preview the new design in real-world using AR in the scanned room itself.

Staffpad

StaffPad, from StaffPad Ltd., is an application that digitizes handwritten musical notations. The main problem that composers face while trying to write and compose digitally is the inability to bridge the gap between handwritten notations and digital sheet music. Staffpad eliminates this problem. Using Apple Technologies like drag and drop, Core ML and Apple Pencil is used to convert each bar into typeset music notation. These can be edited by intuitive touch or Apple Pencil tools.
